Go Behind the Scenes at Vogue’s Open Casting With the 8 International Model Finalists

“I think on that first day we received about 10,000 submissions,” remembers Ignacio Murillo,\xa0Vogue’s global talent casting director, of Open Casting’s immediate impact. In this exclusive video, Murillo explains the process of narrowing down the 67,242 applicants to the eight faces you see in the magazine’s October issue: Rania, Abrar, Mars, Rayan, Mengyao, Rania, Colette, Cynthia, and Dulmi. We also get to hear, in their own words, how the aspiring models found out about the casting, and what the experience was like for them. “I actually found out about it on the last day,” explains Abrar, the model from London. “I applied at, like, 1 a.m., I just went to bed, closed my phone, and never looked at it again to be honest!” While Colette, who lives in Paris, was spurred by seeing all of the different submissions online: “Ok, I’m gonna try it!.” The video also gives a peek at what the vibe was like in the studio during their first-ever\xa0Vogue\xa0shoot, photographed by Charlotte Wales in a London studio.\xa0

The eight modeling hopefuls that became finalists for\xa0Vogue’s Open Casting earlier this year may have been from wildly different places around the world, but they all had more or less the same thought upon receiving the news in their inbox: “I saw Vogue and I just started screaming!”
